Terms and Conditions

The terms that govern your use of LightPane.

Version: 2026-10-21  ·  Last updated: 21 October 2026

Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully before using the LightPane platform operated by Clouds and Light Limited.

1. Introduction

These Terms and Conditions govern your use of the LightPane cloud visibility platform (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

Clouds and Light Limited is a Limited Company registered in the United Kingdom and is registered with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) for data protection purposes.

Business use. The Service is provided for use in the course of a business, trade, craft or profession. By accepting these Terms you confirm you are acting for purposes relating to your business and not as a consumer.

2. The Service

LightPane reads configuration and state metadata from the cloud accounts you connect — Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure — and presents it as embeddable information panels ("panes") that you can place in your own pages, internal tools and runbooks.

3. Accounts and Registration

To use the Service you must register for an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current and complete information when you register, and keep it up to date
  • Keep control of the email address associated with your account — sign-in is by a single-use link sent to that address, so whoever controls the mailbox can access the account
  • Accept responsibility for activity carried out under your account and by members you invite to your organisation
  • Keep your access keys secret, and revoke any key you believe to be compromised
  • Tell us promptly if you believe your account or any access key has been used without your authorisation

You must be at least 18 years old, and if you register on behalf of an organisation you confirm you are authorised to accept these Terms for it.

4. Plans, Fees and Payment

4.1 Plans

The Service is offered on a free plan and on paid subscription plans. The features and limits of each plan are described on our pricing page, which forms part of these Terms. Paid plans are priced per connected cloud account.

4.2 Fees and billing
  • Subscription fees are billed in advance for each billing period, and are stated exclusive of VAT unless we say otherwise. VAT is added where applicable.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. By subscribing you authorise us, through Stripe, to charge your chosen payment method for the fees due.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, until cancelled.
4.3 Cancellation

You may cancel at any time from your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for — you keep access until then, and you are not charged again. We do not provide pro-rata refunds for a period that has already begun, except where section 4.5 applies.

4.4 Changes to pricing

We may change our prices. If a change affects your plan, we will give you at least 30 days' notice before it applies to you, and you may cancel before the new price takes effect.

4.5 Refunds

We are not obliged to give refunds for periods you have paid for, but where the Service has been materially unavailable or has not worked as described, please contact us — we would rather put things right than argue about it. This does not affect any rights you have under law that cannot be excluded.

4.6 Non-payment

If a payment fails we will attempt to collect it again and contact you. If fees remain unpaid we may downgrade your account to the free plan or suspend access to paid features until the balance is settled.

5. Connecting Your Cloud Accounts

The Service works by connecting to cloud accounts that you control. You acknowledge that:

  • You are responsible for your own cloud accounts and for any charges your cloud provider levies, including any charges arising from API calls the Service makes on your behalf
  • You must comply with your cloud provider's own terms and acceptable use policies
  • You grant access using a read-only role or service principal that you create; the Service cannot make changes to your environment
  • You may revoke that access at any time, and you may exclude or hide individual resources from the Service using a reserved resource tag
  • You are responsible for ensuring you are entitled to connect the cloud accounts you connect, and to share what the resulting panes display with whoever you share them with

Embedded panes. Panes are designed to be embedded in pages of your choosing. You are responsible for deciding where you embed them and who can see them, and for the access keys that permit them to load data.

Connected services. The Service provides a mechanism by which you may connect accounts you hold with third-party providers so that we may read data from them on your behalf. You choose which providers to connect, you create the credentials we use, and you may revoke them at any time. We hold the configuration needed to maintain those connections, treat it as confidential, and protect it using measures appropriate to its sensitivity as described in our Privacy Policy. We may change which providers the Service supports from time to time. A connection is established only at your instruction, and never automatically.

The providers you connect in this way are not our subprocessors — they are your own systems, which we read from at your instruction. The third parties that process data on our behalf are listed at lightpane.io/subprocessors.

6. Acceptable Use

You must not, and must not permit anyone else to:

  • Use the Service to access any cloud account you are not authorised to access
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, other customers' data, or our infrastructure
  • Probe, scan or security-test the Service without our prior written consent, or otherwise interfere with its operation or integrity
  • Place an unreasonable load on the Service, circumvent plan limits or rate limits, or use automated means to extract data beyond your plan's documented interfaces
  • Copy, modify, reverse-engineer, resell, sublicense or make the Service available to third parties as a competing offering
  • Use the Service unlawfully, or to store or transmit malicious code
  • Misrepresent your identity, or use the sign-up or invitation features to send unsolicited email to people who have not asked for it

We may remove content, and suspend or terminate accounts, where these Terms are breached — see section 12.

7. Data Protection and Privacy

Clouds and Light Limited is registered with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and is committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with UK data protection laws, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Our collection, use, and protection of your personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy, which should be read in conjunction with these Terms and Conditions.

Cloud resource metadata that we read from your connected accounts is your data. We process it only to provide the Service to you. Where that metadata contains personal data (for example a name in a resource tag), we act as a processor on your behalf and you remain the controller. If you require a data processing agreement, contact us.

Subprocessors. The third parties that process personal data on our behalf are listed at lightpane.io/subprocessors, which forms part of these Terms.

We will publish any change to that list on that page at least 30 days before a new subprocessor begins processing personal data. If you object to a new subprocessor on reasonable data-protection grounds, tell us within those 30 days; if we cannot offer a reasonable alternative, you may terminate the affected subscription without penalty and we will refund any fees covering the period after termination.

Where we must replace a subprocessor urgently to maintain the security or continuity of the Service, we may do so with shorter notice, and will tell you as soon as we reasonably can.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, functionality, code, and original content, is the property of Clouds and Light Limited and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service without express written permission from Clouds and Light Limited. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of your data or your cloud environment to us.

9. Service Availability and Support

We aim to keep the Service available and working well, but we do not currently offer a contractual uptime commitment or service level agreement. We may carry out maintenance, and we may add, change or remove features as the product develops — we will give reasonable notice of changes that materially reduce functionality you rely on.

The Service depends on your cloud providers' APIs. Where those are unavailable, rate-limited or changed, panes may be incomplete or out of date through no fault of ours.

Support is provided by email at support@cloudsandlight.com. We aim to respond promptly during UK business hours.

10. Warranties and Disclaimers

Except as expressly stated in these Terms, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", and we exclude all implied warranties, conditions and terms.

In particular, we do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that the information presented in a pane is complete, current or accurate — it reflects what your cloud provider reported to us when the data was last refreshed, and may be cached. You must not rely on LightPane alone for monitoring, security, compliance or availability decisions.

11. Limitation of Liability

Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profits, revenue, anticipated savings, business, goodwill, or data
  • We are not liable for any loss arising from your reliance on the Service as a monitoring, alerting, security or compliance control, or from the unavailability, inaccuracy or staleness of data obtained from your cloud providers
  • We are not liable for charges levied by your cloud providers, or for the consequences of configuration you or your users apply to your own environments
  • We are not liable for loss arising from your own failure to keep access keys secret, or from where you chose to embed panes and who you allowed to see them

Our total aggregate liability to you arising out of or in connection with these Terms, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, is limited to the greater of (a) £100 and (b) the total fees you paid us in the 12 months immediately before the event giving rise to the claim.

12. Suspension and Termination

By you. You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time using the account-closure feature in the Service, or by contacting us. Section 4.3 explains what happens to a paid subscription.

By us. We may suspend or terminate your access where you breach these Terms, where fees remain unpaid, where your use threatens the security, integrity or lawful operation of the Service, or where we are required to do so by law. Except where the breach is serious or we are legally obliged to act immediately, we will give you notice and a reasonable opportunity to put matters right.

If we withdraw the Service. If we decide to discontinue the Service or your plan, we will give you reasonable notice and refund any fees you have paid for a period after the Service ends.

After termination. Access to the Service stops, and we delete or anonymise your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy, save for records we must keep by law. You should revoke the read-only role or service principal in your own cloud accounts — we cannot do that for you.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. Each version is identified by the version date shown at the top of this page, and we record which version you accepted when you registered.

Where a change is material — for example to fees, to your rights, or to our liability — we will give you reasonable notice by email or in the Service before it takes effect, and where you hold a paid subscription you may cancel before it applies to you. Minor changes, such as clarifications or corrections, take effect when posted.

14. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
